The state of partnerships today — business and personal — is rough. Too many fail. The ones that don’t are often mired in conflict.
There’s a reason for this. Our understanding of relationships needs an upgrade. Most advice is focused on techniques and strategies. Listen better. Manage your emotions. Communicate more. It all sounds sensible enough.
The problem is… people don’t work that way. In the rough and tumble of real life, even the best techniques go out the window, and we’re left with the raw experience of being human: unmet expectations, incompatible styles, bruised egos, divergent opinions, reactivity and defensiveness, anger and mistrust, and worse.
Left to their own devices, these dynamics consume energy, deplete morale, compromise performance, derail careers, and ultimately, threaten the company itself.
